Romesh Ranganathan and his mum will test celebrities’ general knowledge in a new comedy quiz format for ITV. Ranganathan and his mum, Shanthi, will pose questions for the famous contestants, with the twist that the celebs’ fates are ultimately decided by their own parents. 

 

Romesh Ranganathan’s Parent’s Evening is a 3 x 60-minute series produced by Ranganathan’s Ranga Bee label. It will air later this year. The three-parter was commissioned for ITV by Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment commissioning and Joe Mace, commissioning editor for entertainment. British Comedy Guide revealed earlier this year that a non-broadcast pilot was filmed in March.  

 

This is not the first time Shanthi has starred alongside her son, having made appearances on BBC2’s The Ranganation and the travelogue Asian Provocateur on BBC3.  The commission comes as series four of Ranganathan’s BBC2 travelogue The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan (Rumpus Media) came to an end this week.  

 

Ranganthan recently won Best Entertainment Performance at the 2024 BAFTAs for Rob v Romesh and is currently hosting The Weakest Link for the BBC.
